Dad's First Post

Big day for Dad today. After spending an hour, from 4:30am to 5:30am, getting Rylee to finally fall back asleep (Erin was just exhausted) my reward was that I got to feed her for the first time. I got the second feeding which was around 11:30am. It was very cool but over way too fast. Either she eats way more than we thought or she got the milk much faster through the bottle. 2.5oz in about five minutes (with a burp and diaper change in the middle).

I get so much satisfaction out of the everyday stuff. I really like to change her diapers and put on the clothes that Erin lays out for us (we all know I can't pick out her outfits). I love to give Erin a break when she needs it, even at four o'clock in the morning. Then, it is just her and I.

When you figure out that she is upset because she is hot or you find that perfect position to hold her while trying to get her to settle, it cannot be beat.

Everyday is something new. She is incredibly beautiful. When you do something that makes her happy or makes her feel better and she looks at you, WOW!

It is unbelievable how much she has grown and changed in three weeks. In another week she will be a month old. What? Where did that month go? When Erin was pregnant, a month took forever and this one was over in a blink of an eye.

  1. So glad that you finally posted, Merle! Wish I could get Dan to post on our blog :)
I hear ya with the time dragging by during the pregnancy then fast forwarding they're here! Before ya know it, you'll be thinking "where did the past SIX months go?!"
I'm so happy that you are enjoying being a father! Can't wait to see you and your family on Saturday :)

  2. I am so happy to see that she likes you feeding her. There is nothing like that time that you have alone with Rylee. You are an awesome father and Erin is an awesome mother. But then, I didn't have any doubts that you would be. She is growing so much and I'm glad we live so close that I can see her often. I love all of you. Mom/Nan

  3. I get plenty of alone time with her. Erin has been very good about that (I know, sometimes, it is killing her). I knew I was going to be great, but Erin has just turned on a belt-high-fastball and crushed it to the upper deck, unreal. She is just perfect.
